Although many SMEs and startups utilize advanced technology, few are able to find a way to fully unleash its potential for creating value. All too often their method of development is by trial-and-error, which wastes time and money, especially considering the heavy investment of both during marketing.
Often these emerging entrepreneurs turn to a consultant for a solution. Unfortunately, most of the time the advice that these consultants give is purely theoretical or outdated, lacking in real experience in marketing products for SMEs or startups on a truly international scale. Their perspective is often limited to experience in North America, an approach that is missing some of the skills needed to build business in Europe, or the world’s fastest growing market, Asia.
Furthermore, their experience is usually acquired while working for a large corporation, a context removed from that of the SME or startup, which instead requires different skills and an independent nature.
SMEs do not share the same logistical support. Opening new doors are much more difficult when working for them, and closing deals are even more difficult.
Hiring a low cost, dynamic, enthusiastic young marketer might be a good move – but it also bears a substantial amount of risk.
